Ahmed has worked as a researcher in various biomedical labs over the past three years refining his project management and design skills. Ahmed possesses the vision and strong leadership acumen necessary to cultivate Syntr into a revolutionary company pioneering therapies in personalized, precision, and regenerative medicine.
Derek Banyard, MD, MBA
Founder, President & Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Banyard has over 9 years of dedicated basic science and clinical research, has authored over 50 manuscripts, abstracts and presentations and has won awards both nationally and internationally for his research related to the regenerative potential of adipose tissue. He is a former CIRM fellow and serves as research fellow at the Center for Tissue Engineering in the Department of Plastic Surgery at UC Irvine. He is the chief scientist at Syntr.
Justin Stovner
Founder, Chief Technical Officer
Justin has worked in multiple labs that involve centrifugal microfluidic diagnostic systems and biological 3D printing systems. Justin is currently the lead design engineer and is providing the necessary technical skills to fully develop and optimize the Syntrfuge system.
David Duarte
Founder, Chief Operations Officer
David has extensive experience in micro-device manufacturing and tissue engineering with an emphasis in in-vitro tissue vascularization. As COO, David will serve as the lead manufacturing engineer, project design and project management.
Hugo Salas
Founder, Chief Financial Officer
Hugo is a biomedical engineer with an emphasis in business management. In addition to handling the budgeting and finance responsibilities at Syntr, Hugo will be instrumental in guiding the federal regulatory pathway to commercialization.

Thomas has over 20+ years of experience in the life sciences and the healthcare industries, specializing in digital health and bioinformatics. He has a well-balanced background in clinical research as well as software development. In 2015, He founded Precision Digital Health, Inc. a real-world evidence platform for clinical research.
Jered Haun, PhD
Faculty Advisor and Consultant
Dr. Haun is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. He received his PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania and has additional training from at Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Medical School. His work is focused on developing nanotechnologies and microfluidic devices to enable the goals of personalized medicine. Notable contributions include the application of bioorthogonal chemistries to amplifying nanoparticle probes, applying miniaturized magnetic resonance-based diagnostic platforms to detect cancer, and developing novel device technologies to process human tissue specimens for various applications.
Alan D Widgerow, MBBCh, MMed, FCS, FACS
Medical Advisor and Consultant
Dr. Widgerow is a plastic surgeon and clinical professor involved in full time Research and device innovations following a 20 year successful career in private practice in South Africa. He has held various positions in numerous academic and professional associations and is author of over 130 plastic surgical related publications and 2 books. He is currently Director of the Laboratory for Tissue Engineering at UCI and is actively involved in medical device innovations, tissue engineering and wound healing. He has developed and licensed multiple products to the US and South African medical and cosmeceutical markets, and is President of AdarScience Inc, consultant to various companies and chief medical officer at Alastin SkinCare.
